Evgeny Morozov publica en The New Republic<\/a> uno de esos art\u00edculos (que descubro gracias al blog de Chema<\/a>) que son a la vez un puro ejemplo de link baiting<\/em> y una verdad como un templo.<\/p>\n Resulta que en TED ahora editan libros breves, y esto lleva a Morozov a enunciar la frase que yo vi destacada en otra parte y que me impuls\u00f3 a leer el art\u00edculo completo:<\/p>\n Brevity may be the soul of wit, or of lingerie, but it is not the soul of analysis.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n As\u00ed de claro: el modelo TED, muy dado a que un buen showman<\/em> pronuncie un discurso grandilocuente de forma breve (tan breve que sea dif\u00edcil ver asomar las fisuras de dicho discurso) no es un gran referente para el an\u00e1lisis y la investigaci\u00f3n, sea \u00e9sta o no de car\u00e1cter cient\u00edfico.<\/p>\n Resulta que los TED Books, adem\u00e1s, parecen ni siquiera lograr el nivel de entretenimiento de las charlas, y as\u00ed sobre algunos libros de los publicados bajo ese sello (y sobre sus autores) Morozov tambi\u00e9n suelta alguna perla:<\/p>\n THE NEW PAMPHLET\u2014it would be too strong, and not only quantitatively, to call it a book\u2014by Parag and Ayesha Khanna, the techno-babbling power couple, gallops through so many esoteric themes and irrelevant factoids.<\/p>\n \u2026<\/p>\n It might seem odd that Parag Khanna would turn his attention to the world of technology. He established his reputation as a wannabe geopolitical theorist, something of a modern-day Kissinger, only wired and cool. For almost a decade he has been writing pompous and alarmist books and articles that herald a new era in international relations. <\/p>\n \u2026<\/p>\n All of these insights are expressed in linguistic constructions of such absurdity and superficiality (\u201ca world of ever-shifting (d)alliances,\u201d \u201cpeer-to-peer micromanufacturing marketplace\u201d) that Niall Ferguson\u2019s \u201cChimerica\u201d looks elegant and illuminating by comparison<\/p>\n \u2026<\/p>\n he is simply an intellectual impostor, emitting such lethal doses of banalities, inanities, and generalizations that his books ought to carry advisory notices.<\/p>\n \u2026<\/p>\n The recipe is simple. Find some peculiar global trend\u2014the more arcane, the better. Draw a straight line connecting it to the world of apps, electric cars, and Bay Area venture capital. Y TED y su formato breve parece ser el caldo de cultivo de estas historias breves, carentes de detalles y en las que el cherry picking<\/em> permite con frecuencia contar lo que quer\u00edamos contar.
